Simpana 10 extends some of the capabilities around this common repository.In Simpana 10 access to the Content Store has been extended to mobile devices and there are now plugins to enable search in Microsoft Exchange/Outlook.CommVault has introduced industry-specific capabilities for the first time with medical imaging, data deduplication and search functions. According to Tozer, CommVault will look at the possibility of adding support for other verticals such as media, engineering and petro-chemicals in future versions.Version 10 also sees the inclusion of Content Store that allow third-party tools access to the CommVault index.Hardware storage array snapshots are now possible in all mainstream storage arrays for Microsoft Hyper-V.
In Simpana 9, there was already full hardware integration for VMware but only with NetApp for Hyper-V. This release brings Hyper-V hardware snapshot capability in line with VMware with support for all key storage hardware.Simpana uses one agent per host and one process for backup, archiving, search and reporting in what it calls OnePass.
